Therma-Tru Construction in Redwood City, CA | Brookside Contractors

We’re an independent Peninsula crew that provides Redwood City Home Remodeling and installs and services Therma-Tru door systems across Redwood City, from 1920s bungalows near downtown to mid-century ranches in the hills and newer infill along the transit corridor. The thing that separates our Therma-Tru work here is that we read the house before we measure the opening. Redwood City’s block-by-block mix of code vintages means a door swap on one street is a like-for-like replacement while two blocks over it triggers structural and drainage review. Call (833) 725-3508 and we’ll tell you which one you’ve got.

Why Redwood City Residents Choose Us for Therma-Tru Service

We’ve been setting Therma-Tru Fiber-Classic and Classic-Craft systems in Redwood City homes since before fiberglass entry doors were the default spec on Peninsula remodels. That matters because we know these doors by their failure patterns, not their brochure photos. Nate Burrell, our owner and Redwood City General Contractor, trained in construction technology and spent the better part of two decades on job sites across South Santa Clara County before building Brookside into a full-scope remodeling crew. When a Therma-Tru sill gasket fails on a west-facing entry in 94062, we know what’s behind it, what it’s going to cost, and whether the slab is worth saving. We’re not authorized by Therma-Tru and we don’t pretend to be. Our credibility comes from repeat installs and repairs on the same product families Redwood City actually has. That’s the difference between a dealer who sells a door and a contractor who stands behind it through a wet winter.

Common Therma-Tru Construction Problems We Solve in Redwood City

  • Sill and jamb rot on west- and north-facing entries. Wind-driven winter rain pushes water past a failed sill gasket, and it wicks straight into the wood blocking in the bottom rail. We see this on Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star doors all over 94063 and 94062. The fix is a new OEM sill and gasket when the slab is still sound, or an honest conversation about replacement when the bottom rail’s gone punky.
  • Stain checking and fading on Classic-Craft American Style doors. South- and west-facing entries with no overhead protection get hammered by Redwood City’s dry summers and reflected bayfront light. The exterior stain checks, then fades, then the fiberglass starts looking tired. We refinish these with the correct surface prep and marine-grade exterior stain, and we’ll tell you if the door needs an overhang or awning before you sink more money into refinishing.
  • Frame racking and hinge-side jamb separation. Older Redwood City homes with unbraced cripple walls or pier-and-post foundations move. The rough opening racks, the fasteners back out, and the door starts binding at the latch or pulling away at the top hinge. Fixing this properly means addressing the frame and the foundation movement, not shimming the hinge and calling it done.
  • Moisture staining and delamination on oak-grain stainable slabs. After a wet season, the glazing stop and lockset bore are the usual entry points. We see this on Fiber-Classic oak-grain doors in 94061 bungalows where original overhangs were removed or never existed. Left alone, it delaminates at the edges and you’re replacing the slab instead of repairing it.
  • Threshold and weatherseal failure on grade-level entries. Redwood City’s winter rain finds every gap. When the sweep and threshold wear, water pools at the base of the door and the subfloor starts to suffer. This is the cheapest fix we do, and the one most people put off a season too long.

Therma-Tru Service in Redwood City: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Here’s the thing about Redwood City that a generic door contractor won’t tell you. The hillside and older residential pockets in 94061 and 94062 run through the city’s own stringent hillside, seismic, and drainage review. So if you’re replacing a Therma-Tru door and changing the rough opening at all, or adding sidelites, or widening a rough opening on one of those parcels, you’re not just doing a door swap. You’re pulling in structural review and possibly drainage scrutiny that a like-for-like swap in, say, San Carlos or Belmont wouldn’t trigger. We’ve had 94062 hillside projects where the door itself was a one-day install, but the permit path took weeks because the plan check looked at the whole wall assembly. That’s why we start every Therma-Tru job on the hillside with the existing wall and permit history, not just the measurements. CalGreen and the city’s construction-waste diversion rules add another layer in 94063 downtown remodels. You want a contractor who’s filed these plans before, not one who figures it out on your permit clock.

Therma-Tru Models & Products We Service in Redwood City

We service the full Therma-Tru lineup you’re likely to find on Redwood City homes: Therma-Tru sales & service includes Fiber-Classic smooth fiberglass entry systems, Classic-Craft American Style doors, Smooth-Star fiberglass units, and Fiber-Classic oak-grain stainable entry systems. For newer doors still under support, we specify Therma-Tru OEM sills, sweeps, and hinge hardware. For older systems where OEM pieces are discontinued, we use quality aftermarket weatherseal and threshold parts and we tell you that’s what we’re doing. We don’t fake a factory part. Most common service parts we keep on hand or can get fast, which keeps Redwood City turnaround short. On a sound slab and frame, sill and gasket replacement is almost always the right call. When the bottom rail or stile has been soaking up water for years, we’ll tell you to replace the system rather than patch rot that’ll be back in two winters.
